Life Happens to You While You're Busy Making Other Plans

These dahlias, they really bring a bit of sunshine to the day.

At the beginning of the year, I picked the word support as my theme. The idea was that I'd be more supportive of others. But then life happened when I slipped that disc, and primarily, I've been supporting myself. However, I have made progress on all fronts.

I've reduced my clothing by 50% and donated them to Cause for Paws. I've donated furniture, excess kitchenware, and artwork to the Green Chair Project, which supports refugees. I've been doing my PT exercises regularly, and the payoff was spending three glorious hours gardening on Sunday morning. My favorite way to pray.

When I was a kid zinnias were my least favorite flower but after living in NC for over twenty years I’ve come to love them.

I filled the bathtub on my porch with blush-colored vincas and scattered a flat of zinnias throughout the garden and into the pots on the patio. Red, pink, and burgundy gladiolas will grace the yard in late summer. I felt so good that I restored the path from my property into the park next door, which meant I weeded and mulched the area. All this digging in the dirt and working with clay excites me to show you all the new work I've been doing. I'll feature it next week. The seeds of support are taking root, and I look forward to seeing what blooms.

Over all things are looking lush and promising. The amaryllis and irises are blooming, as are the snapdragons. I’m aiming for a cut flower garden.

When pollen season is over, I’ll need to give the brick walkways a scrub.

A lush area of azaleas, iris, amaryllis, and jasmine.

Azaleas, jasmine, amaryllis, azaleas and iris fill this section, soon the black berry lilies and the turk’s cap lilies are heading to the sky.
