Today is the last day of National Craft Month. A celebration designed to help people rediscover their creativity and to promote the benefits of crafting.

Learning with loved ones is one of the many ways to spend quality time together.

Learning a craft is good for you. Being creative is a fun and easy way to reduce stress while lowering your blood pressure, similar to meditation. If you want to create positive reinforcement for yourself or your child, learning a new skill is a natural way to do it. With each step learned, the satisfaction from gaining a new skill is rewarding. Most crafts require fine motor skills. Crafting teaches these to young children and keeps our motor skills sharp as we age.

The big benefits come from crafting together. When we're failing and succeeding, learning from each other, and sharing experiences, we're frequently laughing. I love working with clay, and when I'm teaching it or doing it with other people, it's a definition of happiness. Classes are fun. When you create for a purpose, like making tiles with children for a mural at their school, you're building community. When you combine generosity with creativity, like participating in the Empty Bowls Project, you're feeding your soul. Just because it’s the last day of March, doesn’t mean you need to quit celebrating.
